2015 was a tremendous year for Essential Mixes. From Ben Klock’s expertly-crafted techno odyssey — which won Essential Mix of the year — to Max Cooper’s mind-bending two-hour creation, which topped our End of Year list, there was no shortage of standout offerings on the legendary mix show.
Live electronic act Maribou State were recently tapped to deliver the first Essential Mix of 2016. The UK duo served as residents on BBC Radio 1 throughout the fall, proving themselves equally stellar at curating music as they are at creating it. Their Essential Mix is as diverse as you’d expect from their varied output, featuring everything from Gold Panda and Pedestrian, to Daft Punk and Daughter. Much like their aesthetic, it’s a lighter, more laid back affair, albeit with plenty of intriguing surprises along the way.
